Bifold doors are pretty straightforward. You see the door is off the track. You see if the guide or track is broken, get a new part, install the part, lubricate everything with a silicone lubricant and you are done. The hardest thing to deal with is adjusting the door to make sure it is true. Actually you don’t care if it is true, but that the door closes evenly with the wall, so that it looks as if it is straight.

Pocket doors are trickier. In most of them you need to remove some of the trim in order to remove the door and that can lead to more work including touching up paint and finish.

The bottom guides for bifold doors come in a dizzying variety, yet if you are not too fussy you can usually make a multitude of them work. Where you run into a large variety that usually can not be substituted is on the upper guides and rollers. There is a slew of them, and dimension is critical.

Newer pocket doors also have a large number of rollers to choose from and the majority of those are available. If they are not then just put in a whole replacement track and roller assembly. Pay the money, do the job and enjoy a cold soda afterward.

On the 100-year-old pocket doors your choices are much slimmer and the parts are much harder to come by. All I can say is samples, samples and more samples, plus get ready to pay.
